By now you've probably heard the name Swiperboy and might be wondering why? You may be one of the World Record breaking singer/rapper's Millions of die-hard fans, a casual listener, or just intrigued in general. Either way, let's get you familiar with this absolute legend that has arguably the most unique rise to fame of any former college student on Earth. Meet the GOAT himself, Swiperboy.
Swiperboy, known in basketball circles as the High-Flying 6'9" Small Forward, was an All-American coming out of High School. The Los Angeles baller was #1 ranked in his position in California and Top 10 in the United States.
He went on to play at the University of Tennessee where he made three consecutive March Madness appearances, an Elite 8 appearance, two conference championships and a career high of 17 points and 10 rebounds against the would-be National Champs, the University of Kentucky. During this game he became the only Tennessee Vol in the school's history to make 5 consecutive three pointers in under 5 minutes.
After graduating from UTK, he transferred to the University of Southern California as a Masters Student to complete his Red-Shirt Senior season of basketball. During his time at USC, he capped off the season by being a finalist in the State Farm College Slam Dunk Contest that was aired globally on ESPN.
After almost deciding to stop playing basketball to pursue a music career upon graduation, Swiperboy received and accepted an invite to workout for the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers.
During this workout, he broke the Lakers pre-draft vertical leap record at the time with a 42" jump, and the record for the fastest three-quarters court sprint. His workout stunned the entire Los Angeles Lakers front office.
With multiple major record label offers on the table, Swiperboy decided to turn them all down once the Lakers expressed interest in signing him to the team. The Los Angeles Lakers signed him the summer after graduation, where he would begin his professional basketball journey.
Swiperboy enjoyed multiple NBA Summer League's and Pre-Season's with the Los Angeles Lakers, Euro-League with Bilbao Basket of Spain, Serbian League with Metalac Valjevo, NBA G League with Grand Rapids/Detroit Pistons and a Pre-Season with the New York Knicks/Westchester Knicks before a knee injury would ultimately end his basketball career.
When Swiperboy's professional basketball career came to a tragic end, he knew his story wasn't done yet. After an injury that led to rehabilitating nerves in his leg, his ability to walk again, accompanied with deep depression, Swipe felt that his only option to get his life back on track was to go back to his roots - his passion for music.
As a kid, Swiperboy found early success with music. At age 10, he rapped in a commercial that was aired globally on Nickelodeon and Disney Channel for an entire year. With many professionals encouraging Swipe to jump into the music industry as a child star, he decided he wanted to chase his basketball dreams instead.
Years later, as a freshman basketball star, he began releasing music on the internet in his free time simply as a hobby. These Tennessee Vols-Themed tracks, recorded in his dorm room, quickly began to go viral online as a star was born. ESPN, CBS Sports, USA Today and more coined him as the world's first college basketball player and hip-hop artist.
As his songs started to get played in the basketball arena and football stadium, then on the radio, Swipe's campus social life started to change too. He could no longer walk around campus without being recognized and stopped by excited fans wanting pics. He even had to start taking courses online because of how many fans would show up to his classes.
This combo of College Basketball-Star & Rap-Star came to a standstill once Swipe decided to play pro basketball. For a few years, he stopped music completely, focusing on hoops until he decided to return to music after his injury.
Fast forward to today, Swiperboy is now on-pace to have one of the coolest stories the music industry has ever seen. Since returning to the music industry, Swipe has gained millions of streams online, set a Guinness World Record for recording and releasing 391 songs in a year, performed in major music festivals, headlined his own nationwide tours, sold out venues, gained a global fan-base and has plans for a global tour.
What a story right? Well it doesn't stop there. As Swipe's legendary story and awesome music has been spreading rapidly to college kids around the world today, he has yet again made a game-changing decision. After getting booked to perform at a few Dab Desert University events, Swiperboy made a power move in 2024 by becoming an official Partner and Head of Tour Relations.
"I see crazy potential with DDU and I wanted to be apart of the journey to success. When I started to get recognized at airports, not just for my basketball or music, but from Dab Desert.. I knew this shit was starting to take off. Aside from that, our community is college legends with their whole futures ahead of them. I've been there before. I want to help DDU bring more students together, have some awesome memories, create opportunities to help jump-start their careers and just help their college experience be fun. I truly think Dab Desert University has Barstool-level potential. Look I'm 34 now, 'old' to college kids, but young in business. Dave Portnoy, the owner of Barstool is 47. I'm a competitor across the board, so like I've said in everything I've accomplished.. Watch what we do. Together." - Swiperboy
